Background: Dementia is a syndrome that affects 3 million people worldwide. As of date, it is a condition that can not be cured but it can be treated. Treatments vary from taking different medications affecting hormonal balance or home treatment that involves the teamwork of professional caregivers. There is also therapy based on the severity of the condition. A majority of the therapies, however, involves physical therapy, which limits many of the aged patients or patients with minor disabilities, and CST or Cognitive Stimulation Therapy to help continuous learning. CST is a program that is led by a trained nurse. A program also means travel to a certain place to receive it. It also means a therapy based on a whole and not the individual. What if we can provide a personalized CST that learns as the patient learns.

Goal: To provide a portable personalized cognitive stimulation therapy , through the use of BCI and ML with cloud computing/ big data to provide decision support for healthcare professionals

Methods: There are three components to this therapeutic system, the easy to wear electrode cap, the AI infused device, and the patient. The function of the electrode cap is to help with the machine learning aspect of deciding which areas of the brain needs to be focused on. It can also provide rough heatmaps for doctors and professionals to help decide what is best for the individual. The AI-controlled device is the size of a smartphone to the size of an Ipad. The device is able to detect the signals of the cap and accordingly devise a therapy session. The results of the session can automatically sent to the primary point of care physician which then can help with decision making. Overall , the entire design can be used in the comfort of a rocking chair. The AI embedded in the device is the exciting part. As it receives hotspots signals from the connected BCI , it learns what areas of the brain is greatly affected. As the patient learns so does the AI creating future session based on scores and hotmaps. It’s a rough design with great potential

Discussion: The case of dementia is very common. But for such a common disease, there isn’t much hope in the end. Even though the brain is mostly grey and white matter, I treat it like a muscle. A muscle that can be exercised and built. As for the gym , AI can help with that.
