ABOUT
AIMed is the driving force ensuring the healthcare sector is not left behind. Our goals are to eradicate challenges, define AI enabled solutions and create an efficient workplace, with patient outcomes at its core. Our aim is to assist medical professionals to discover new ways to incorporate advances in technology to help the way they work. The AIMed portfolio is instrumental in reshaping the mindsets of individuals and the future of medicine.

A message from the AIMed Chairman and Founder
I am a pediatric cardiologist and have cared for children with heart disease for the past three decades. In addition, I have an educational background in business and finance as well as healthcare administration and global health.
Even though I came from a strong academic background and have had renowned mentors as well as have authored and edited many articles and textbooks, I came to realize early in my career that medicine is woefully inadequate and often lacking in data-supported information and knowledge.
To better prepare myself for this new era of artificial intelligence, I returned to school and studied biomedical data science and artificial intelligence at Stanford School of Medicine. It was basically a four-year continually epiphanous and intellectually transformational journey.
On a personal level, I have two beautiful adopted daughters who are medically challenged with chronic diseases. I am reminded numerous times on a daily basis just how inadequate our medical world is and how a new biomedical world imbued with artificial intelligence (“medical” intelligence or “intelligence-based” medicine) will help every patient (including my two children) immensely.
Starting a revolution
The Medical Intelligence and Innovation Institute (MI3) is funded by the Sharon Disney Lund Foundation with the purpose of advancing data science and artificial intelligence in medicine around the world. Our vision is for this institute as well as AIMed to serve as a clarion call to start a revolution to embrace this new exciting paradigm for healthcare and medicine.
I hope you will join me on this exciting new journey.

the result of initiatives from CHOC Children’s Sharon Disney Lund Medical Intelligence and Innovation Institute (MI3)

AIMed is the result of initiatives from CHOC Children’s Sharon Disney Lund Medical Intelligence and Innovation Institute (MI3) with the purpose of advancing data science and artificial intelligence in medicine around the world.
The Sharon Disney Lund Medical Intelligence and Innovation Institute (MI3) at CHOC Children’s is a unique and first-of-its-kind institute that creates, focuses and executes projects in the areas of intelligence and innovation in pediatric medicine. These two interrelated disciplines, extremely limited in development in the pediatric realm, hold great promise to change the trajectory of pediatric care around the world. MI3 offers multiple programs or “missions” that bring individuals, teams and ideas together and accelerates innovation by creating a “network of networks” on a local, regional and international level.
Since 1964, CHOC Children’s has been steadfastly committed to providing the highest quality medical care to children. Affiliated with the University of California, Irvine, CHOC’s regional pediatric healthcare network includes a state-of-the-art 316-bed main hospital facility in the City of Orange, and a hospital-within-a-hospital in Mission Viejo. CHOC also offers many primary and specialty care clinics, more than 100 additional programs and services, a pediatric residency program, and four centers of excellence – The CHOC Children’s Heart, Neuroscience, Orthopaedic and Hyundai Cancer Institutes.

In addition to launching AIMed, MI3 is credited with bringing together leaders across pediatric hospitals in the US and around the world, an initiative that resulted in the creation of an international Society for Pediatric Innovation (iSPI).
Using new and existing business models along with the latest advances in artificial intelligence, genomics, nanomedicine, robotics, and other areas, MI3 inspires and enables innovators to tackle the problems of today with the tools and the mindset of tomorrow.
Most popular programs and initiatives include iClinic (intelligent clinic) focusing on testing new technologies and reinventing the clinic of the future, CHOC MI3 Summer Innovation and Intelligence Internship, which is open to high school, undergrad and graduate students, MI3 Monthly Briefings, open to the public, and featuring speakers, providing news and updates on innovation and intelligence, and creating a forum for CHOC associates to connect with innovators outside of the hospital walls. There are multiple innovation activities to help innovators at CHOC learn and experiment. Best ideas can be brought to market via a partnership with an Innovation Institute, LLC which serves as a commercialization arm.
