Blanca Gallego Luxan

Associate Professor Gallego Luxan leads the Clinical Machine Learning Research Unit at the Centre for Big Data Research in Health, UNSW. Trained as a physicist, she obtained her PhD in climate modelling from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She relocated to Australia in 2003 where she worked at the University of Sydney developing accounting frameworks for assessing the environmental impact of large corporations. Blanca joined the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI) in 2006. During her time at the AIHI, she established a successful research program in Health Data Analytics. In November 2017 she joined the Centre for Big Data Research in Health, UNSW as head of the Clinical Machine Learning Research Unit. Her current research focusses on designing, developing and evaluating technology that uses large repositories of routinely collected data to support safe and optimal clinical decisions for individual patients.
