Dr. Eliot Siegel is a Professor and Vice Chair of Research Information Systems at the University of Maryland Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. He also serves as adjunct Professor of Bioengineering and Computer Science at the University of Maryland undergraduate level, receiving numerous teaching awards. He helped to launch the University of Maryland Medical Intelligent Image Center and numerous other projects that continue to have an impact on clinical research, education, and clinical care. Under his guidance, the VA Maryland Healthcare System became the first filmless healthcare enterprise in the world. A renowned author and public speaker, Dr. Siegel has written more than 300 publications about PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems) and all aspects of imaging informatics and has presented around the world on the use of computers in medicine.

He has been selected as one of the top radiologists in the US on multiple occasions. Dr. Siegel has also served in various official capacities with the Society of Photo-optical and Industrial Engineers (SPIE), the Society of Computer Applications in Radiology (SIIM), imaging informatics for the National Cancer Institute, and RSNA’s Medical Imaging Resource Committee. Dr. Siegel also served as medical consultant to the IBM “Jeopardy” team.
