
Dr. Amin Madani is an endocrine and acute care surgeon-scientist in the Department of Surgery at the University Health Network (Toronto, Canada). His Surgical AI Laboratory is located within the Temerty Advanced Surgical Education and Simulation Centre at the Michener Institute of Education. Dr. Madani’s research focus is in surgical expertise and the optimization of performance in the operating room. His work involves investigating mental models through qualitative means, and leveraging advances in AI, computer vision, augmented/virtual reality and simulation to design and develop technologies to improve surgical performance. Some of his innovations include developing AI models with the potential for real-time intra-operative guidance and education, virtual reality simulations for team training, and novel telestration devices for surgical coaching.”
