Richard Issitt gained his Doctorate in cardiopulmonary bypass related neurological injury from the University of Southampton. He is currently Senior Perfusionist and Clinical Lead for the Digital Research Environment at Great Ormond Street Hospital. His current interests are in the utilisation of clinical data for predictive data analytics and application development in the healthcare setting and assessing clinical cardiothoracic data. As such he is currently studying a Data Science pathway to develop a bioinformatician-perfusionist role in the future, and is the only Perfusionist to hold a British Heart Foundation Research Fellowship in which he is examining novel methods for facilitating paediatric heart transplantation.
Dr Issitt has authored more than 20 research papers and provided data visualisations and analyses that have been presented at International Conferences, and has himself lectured around the globe. He teaches the paediatric module of the Bristol University M.Sc in Perfusion Science, and is a reviewer for multiple peer review journals and an Editorial Board member of the international journal Perfusion.
Dr Issitt has established GOSH as the most active perfusion research department in the UK. He is one of only 3 perfusionists to win the Society of Perfusionists’ research award twice, and was granted Fellowship to the College of Clinical Perfusionists in 2008.
