Thomas de Lange, MD, PhD, Associate professor and senior gastroenterologist at
Sahlgrenska University Hospital and University of Gothenburg.
Dr. Thomas de Lange is also Chief Medical Scientist at Augere Medical, a start-up
company developing AI tools to improve quality of GI endoscopy.
Dr de Lange graduated from Université Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, France and trained in
endoscopy and gastroenterology at Ullevål University Hospital, Oslo, Norway.
He holds a PhD degree from University of Oslo 2006 for his research in development
and evaluation of digital documentation in endoscopy. Since he has led several projects
to improve quality in endoscopy including developing systematic endoscopy training in
Norway. He has also been the lead for the implementation of colorectal cancer
screening in Norway, including acting as the principal investigator for a Norwegian
randomized study for colorectal cancer screening comparing sigmoidoscopy to FIT.
Since 2014 he has collaborated with computer scientists in developing AI solutions for
endoscopy and largely contributed to create large publicly available image databases for
the scientific community.
He has published over 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals, including numerous AI papers.
