Karl Kochendorfer, MD, FAAFP, FAMIA is the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, Chief Health
Information Officer (CHIO) and Associate Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at the University of Illinois
Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health) and Associate Professor of Clinical Family Medicine at
the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). He is a practicing primary care clinician who also delivers
babies and cares for hospitalized patients. At UI Health, Dr. Kochendorfer has founded and led many
enterprise initiatives, including Meaningful Use (MU), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Clinical
Documentation Improvement (CDI), Clinical Guideline and Protocol Oversight, Clinical Decision
Support (CDS), Informatics, AI, Patient Portal and Data Governance Committees and Teams.
